Ordeal By Cheque by Kai Oshimo

Lawrence Exeter once said the happiest day of his life was when he became a Sr. Yes he had a child and yes he named it Lawrence Exeter Jr. and yes when I said he "once" said it was the happiest day I mean it was for a very brief time. But lets start at the beginning when it was still his happiest day, and when Sr. spent money on Jr. because of love.

Lawrence Exeter Jr. was spoiled from even before he was born. He had all the best toys, the best hospital, and even the best doctor. When he got older his toys were upgraded into bikes and cars. He went to the most expensive school, and after that a prestigious military academy. After all the things his father had done for him, he was ungrateful, stupid (he crashed his new Cadillac four days after he got it), and jealous of his money.

Two years into his stay at Stanford University (of course his father had paid for it all, Jr. had never worked a day in his life) he got into the worst trouble so far in his life. He assaulted a Miss Daisy Windsor. Now Miss Windsor was about to sue but Lawrence Exetor Sr. paid her off a huge amount to keep her quiet. To leave the embarrassing life back home Lawrence Sr. took his son and fled to France. There he set up his own bank account and tried his best to keep his son out of trouble. He even started paying for his son's romantic needs at the florist. Lawrence Exeter Sr. started to settle down in his new home with new decorations and decided that he did not want anymore trouble with his son. He bought him an engagement ring, sent him to Hawaii for his honeymoon, paid him 200,000 dollars to go away and out of his life, and to be sure of things, gave his son his checkbook. Little did he know he was very wrong in hoping he'd never have any trouble with him again.

With all this money in his power, Lawrence Jr. started spending money on all his lady friends. He bought flowers, gowns, and lingerie for his many mistresses. He thought he was so cool he even bought himself a nice pair of boots and a fancy gun. Mrs. Lawrence Exeter Jr. was getting mighty suspicious.

She took Jr.'s checkbook and ordered Tony Spagoni, mob leader, to find out what he was up to. Mrs. Exeter Jr. fund out what he had been doing and especially with a woman named Miss Flossie Wentworth. Mrs. Exeter Jr. wanted a divorce. After many lawyers and failed attempts to bribe her, her wish was granted. She was now Marie Whanton Exeter.

Lawrence Jr.'s wife was gone, but that meant no one was there to pay Tony Spagoni. He was very threatening and Jr had to pay him little by little and he wasn't even sure why. As he was writing a check to the mob's second in command, Peter Ventizzia, he was attacked and sent to the hospital.

Lawrence Sr. heard this news and rushed to the hospital. He had to pay the hospital of course because Jr. gave back the checkbook. He decided he was done with all this trouble and paid the doctor to "accidentally" kill his son. After the funeral, which hardly anyone attended, the only thing that was on his mind was, "Good Riddance."

  1. Hello Kai. I believe that this portion of your story is good, however your entire story would be much better if it was all there :)

  2. Dan- Again, this is not the forum for teasing your friends. Please keep your comments in the realm of constructive criticism. There is a link on the webpage if you are confused.

Kai- I really enjoyed reading your work. You followed the checks nicely, but still managed to have a smooth flow of creative thoughts. Your ending sentence was the "knock-out punch" so to speak. Well done. Remember to proofread; and keep up the hard work.
