ORDEAL BY CHEQUE BY NICHOLAS FISHER

The year was 1903 and business was booming in Las Angeles, California. Near The end of the year wealthy business man Lawrence Exeter had a baby boy. He sure spoiled his child, especially after his mother left. He bought Lawrence Jr. all kinds of toys and sent him to prestigious schools. This just made it worse, so worse in fact that Lawrence Jr. Was sent to Military Academy. When Lawrence returns his father bought him a brand new Cadillac. This didn't last long because just a few days after he wrecks it, showing he doesn't really care and doesn't know the value of money.

Only one month later Lawrence Jr. is sent to Princeton, which he drops out of after just one semester. While he is at college his mother goes to his father begging for money. He lovingly gives it to her and she is gone in the morning, along with all of the cash. Lawrence Jr. is then bought a ticket to go to France, because he and his father both needed a break from each other.

Lawrence spends tones of money on extravagant things, including gifts for his girlfriend and even a new house. Meanwhile Lawrence Sr. gets married in Hawaii to his girlfriend of a year. Soon after, his son returns to The States. He got involved with some bad people in France and bought a gun from a sporting goods store for protection. This was especially to well known mobster Tony Spagoni. In the midst of all these problems he still manages to get married to his girlfriend from France. This didn't last long though, after his mob relations ruined his marriage and nearly ruined him. Tony keeps on demanding more money and his true intentions are revealed but it is too late for Lawrence Jr.

One day Tony storms into Lawrence's estate ready to kill him for writing a bad check. Lawrence quickly writes a new cheque in hopes of patching their relationship. However, this does not work and Lawrence is gunned down a few days later. Wakes up in the hospital barely remembering a thing, only to see Tony standing above him. He tries to call for help but nothing comes out. Lawrence is found dead a couple of hours later at the bottom of an elevator shaft not far from his room. But no one ever found out how it truly happened.
